Karen has been a vital member of Cleverbit’s team since October 2022. As our Internal Talent Acquisition Executive, she plays a crucial role in shaping our workforce and actively participates in our events committee, adding vibrancy to our company culture. When did you join Cleverbit, and how has your experience been since then?

I joined Cleverbit in October 2022. It’s been a little over a year, and the experience has been incredibly fulfilling.

Can you describe your role as an Internal Talent Acquisition Executive at Cleverbit?

Initially, my focus was on finding the right candidates. Now, I’m also involved in refining our recruitment processes and branding.

What led you to a career in recruitment?

After the company I worked for closed during Covid, I explored HR and recruitment. This journey led me to realise my passion for recruitment, focusing on finding the right fit for our team and company. At the time I joined, I had about six months of prior recruiting experience. It was an honor that Cleverbit believed in my potential, despite my limited experience. I hope I’ve been able to validate their trust in me.

What do you enjoy most about working at Cleverbit?

The aspect I cherish most about my role at Cleverbit is the exceptional work environment and the people I work alongside. I can genuinely say that I’ve never experienced a more genuine and empathetic workplace. Cleverbit is, without a doubt, the best employer I’ve had. I also appreciate the flexibility and management style here.

Can you share an example of a challenge you faced at Cleverbit and what you learned from it?

A major challenge was when a candidate withdrew just before their start date. This taught me the importance of assessing commitment throughout the recruitment process.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work? How do they contribute to your overall well-being?

Photography a passion of mine, serves as a form of meditation. It allows me to be present in the moment, connect with nature and my surroundings, and convey emotions and stories through a single image. I hope to dedicate more time to this hobby in the future.

What are some professional achievements you’re proud of?

Stepping into recruitment, a new field for me, and thriving in it has been a significant achievement. I use my strengths like emotional intelligence and effective communication daily.

What’s your approach to ensuring candidates fit well with Cleverbit’s values?

Each interview is slightly different, depending on the candidate’s responses. I focus on collaboration, transparency, and ensuring a good team fit.

How has your approach to recruitment evolved at Cleverbit?

I build on the replies I get in interviews, so every interview is different. I try to touch on all the values like collaboration and transparency, depending on how candidates communicate.

What do you find challenging in your role, especially when interacting with diverse personalities?

I meet very different people, and everyone reacts differently to feedback. Most candidates are very pleasant to work with, but as with any job, you do meet some people that give you a hard time.

Can you describe the company culture at Cleverbit?

It’s amazing. Very friendly, very empathetic, and very supportive. We empower employees with a management style that is always open to discussion.

Describe any mentorship or leadership opportunities you’ve observed within the organisation.

Cleverbit’s management style is centered on empowerment. There’s no micromanagement, and decisions are made through open-minded discussions and transparent conversations. Working here makes you feel like you’re truly contributing to the company’s success.

How do you see AI influencing recruitment in the future?

I expect to see AI more in recruitment, especially in terms of what candidates want to work on and how they engage with potential employers.

How do you use AI tools like ChatGPT in your role?

I frequently use ChatGPT for tasks such as crafting LinkedIn posts and more effectively articulating difficult messages.

What advice would you give to candidates applying at Cleverbit?

Go with your gut. Your job should contribute to your overall happiness, considering factors like the work environment, management style, and benefits.

What’s something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

Despite being perceived as outgoing and bubbly, I have a strong aversion to addressing crowds and public speaking. I get quite anxious when all the attention is on me in a group setting. It’s something many people might not expect from me!
